After weeks of nothing but rain and dreary grey skies, it dawned on me that I may have taken the sun for granted.
When I was traveling around Europe last Spring, the moment the sun showed up, I’d see people lounging around the park, some wearing the flimsiest bikinis, and I remember being somewhat amused by this. Back home, when the sun is out, people flock to the mall for shelter from the heat—our government sadly isn’t a fan of parks and outdoor public spaces so we’re kind of not spoilt for choice in that area (ugh), and because you have to drive thru gridlock traffic to get to the nearest park, there just isn’t enough incentive to get to one. Oh well.
Anyway, grey-hued days are still ahead so in an effort to cheer myself up (because the weather matches my mood), here’s a throwback to that brief sliver of time M, R, and I escaped to Kalaw Place in Puerto Galera, days before the rest of Manila went on its annual Holy Week exodus. We were blessed with gorgeous weather, not a lot of clouds obstructing our view of the stunning sunsets Galera is known for, and we had the wooden deck right by the cove mostly to ourselves—we made it just in time before the invasion of the instagrammers.
Perfect place to worship the sun while reading a book or listening to R’s covers playlist and then take a cool dip right after!
I can totally see myself retiring in a place like this. <3
