Having been on a Flickr uploading frenzy recently, I just realized that I haven’t posted anything of this year’s visit to Osaka yet. Nothing really much to post because my friends and I only spent a day there this time around.
Last year, Osaka was our home base, and Dotonbori was our nightly playground. It gave us our first experience of Japan, and I guess it’s for this reason that we remain quite fond of the place. Since we already spent last year exploring much of the city, we decided to just spend the final leg of our 10-day Japan adventure retracing our steps in vibrant Dotonbori.
Below are some snaps from my iPhone :D
We basically spent the last 24 hours of our trip stuffing ourselves silly. A highlight that night, however, was when we went to the Irish pub we chanced upon last year and a local band serenaded us with the original version of “Sukiyaki”.
They even insisted we sing along with them on stage (read: we didn’t—for the safety of everybody’s eardrums). It was a great way to end an awesome trip.
That, and trying to figure out what these creatures were supposed to be:
I really enjoyed this write-up and seeing all your pictures of Dotonbori. It’s fun when a blog post feels so familiar and you’re able to relive all your memories of being in that place too. I remember seeing those weird creature statues too, I was so busy staring at them that a bicycle almost hit me!

Thanks :) I think more than anything, this blog is my way of reliving the times I spent in these different places. Even while I’m traveling, i’m already thinking about how I’m going to talk about the place in such a way that I am able to somehow “preserve” the experience of being there. Like writing about it will not make me forget. Does that even make sense? Haha
