Me, a year and 13 days ago, after watching the sunrise over at Mt. Pulag. :)
I cannot believe this was only taken January the year prior.
2013 was such an incredibly packed year—a huge chunk of it (and 2012!) was spent demolishing my recently completed 30 Before 30 bucket list. Climbing this mountain—one of the Philippines’ highest peaks—was item no. 22.
With the new decade ahead of me, it’s high time I create a new one. I’ll be coming up with a 35 Before 35 project soon—I think five years is enough time to accomplish bigger, grander goals, don’t you think? :D
For now, my 2014 to-do list is to hit as many places in the Philippines as possible, especially off-the-beaten-path destinations near Manila where I live. After crossing off a number of local destinations from my 30 Before 30 project, I firmly believe that my late aunt—God bless her soul—was on to something when she told me to explore my country first before I go off exploring the world. There is definitely a lot of crazy beautiful places in the Philippines if you know where to look. I guess you can expect more PH-related entries from this blog this year—here’s to hoping I convince the lot of you to make my country your next holiday destination. Cheers! ;)

There’s a good chance I’ll be in the Philippines in March. Looking forward to capturing some awesome images there. I’ve only been once before back in 1993. My parents go a couple of times a year. They are missionaries. They have a house in Angeles City. Where, other than Mt. Pinatubo would you suggest I go to get some good landscape photos?

There are a lot of great landscape photo opportunities here, but it depends on how much time you will be spending here and if you’re willing to fly to the other islands like Palawan and Batanes.
From your parents’ place in Angeles, traveling north via bus gets you to the Cordillera/Mountain Province region, where there are lots of really nice rice terraces in both Sagada and Banaue; if you’re fond of trekking, you can go to Mt Pulag. There’s also La Union for the beach and surfing, and the Ilocos region for heritage churches, windmills, and Pagudpud (another beach area). If you go South, you can go to Taal Volcano in Batangas province, too.
